Role: Senior Accountant/Controller

As we continue to strengthen and develop our finance function, we are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to join our Accounting department. This role offers an opportunity to play an important part in ensuring reliable financial reporting, strong financial control, and high-quality support to the business.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and stakeholders across the organisation, you will contribute to accurate financial information, sound decision-making, and the ongoing development of finance processes and systems. The role combines hands on accounting and controlling responsibilities with opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance reporting, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.

You will work across a broad range of financial activities and collaborate with colleagues throughout the organisation, helping to maintain high standards of financial control while identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve ways of working. Could you be our new Senior Accountant/Controller?

  • Location: Bergen office.

  • Reporting to: Finance Manager

  • Department / team: Accounting

  • Employment Type: Fulltime, Permanent

  • Travel requirements: Minimal

 

What would your day at GAC look like?

  • Support month-end closing activities, ensuring accurate accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting

  • Prepare VAT, statistical, and statutory reporting in line with Norwegian regulatory requirements

  • Maintain and follow up IFRS16 accounting and related reconciliations

  • Help ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls

  • Support the annual audit, budgeting process, and resolution of complex accounting matters

  • Partner with the Finance Manager to provide financial analysis, follow-up, and business support across the organization

  • Contribute to cash flow management, credit control, and efficient customer and supplier related financial processes

  • Work closely with managers and stakeholders to support accurate reporting, financial transparency, and informed decision-making

  • Support the Payroll Officer with accounting, controls, and regulatory matters

  • Proactively identify and drive improvements in processes, systems, automation, and ways of working

 

Job requirements

What are we looking for?

  • Education: Relevant education in accounting, finance, or auditing

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting, experience from a senior accountant, controller, auditing, or similar finance role

  • Technical Skills: : Good working knowledge of Microsoft365, solid experience with ERP/accounting systems, reporting tools, and digital finance processes.

  • Knowledge of VAT, reporting, and financial controls

  • Language: Norwegian fluency is a requirement; Strong English skills are an advantage

  • Structured and analytical, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and quality across a broad range of financial activities

  • Proactive and improvement-minded, with a willingness to challenge existing ways of working and contribute to more efficient processes

  • Interested in systems, automation, and technology, with an eye for identifying practical opportunities to improve efficiency and quality

  • Collaborative and approachable, with the ability to build strong working relationships across functions and levels of the organization

  • Clear communicator who works well with managers, colleagues, and other stakeholders, translating financial information
