Job description

The main purpose of the job is to manage the accounting function within the general accounts team with accountability to FM. The position exists to ensure that all GL Account transactions, fixed assets, general invoicing and bank transactions are accurately accounted and reconciled per the company’s guidelines/policy and within the set time frames. The job contributes to effective and accurate accounting and reconciliation of intercompany accounts, depreciation, fixed assets, and bank transactions and to facilitate the monthly closing process. It also covers the following: Updating all expense invoices from suppliers, raising monthly Admin invoices, Arranging payments in HSBCNet.

Job Description

1. Manage bank and general accounting functions to ensure accuracy of postings and reporting.

  • Supervise the postings of bank entries daily to ensure that all bank receipts and payments are updated and reconciled with bank statements., Review cash / bank transit accounts daily to ensure that all cash and cheques collected has been deposited into the bank, as required.

  • Monitoring posting of Expenses.

  • GL Posting of payroll.

  • Review the GL account postings on a periodical basis to ensure the accuracy and generally accepted accounting practices are followed.

2. Assist Finance Manager in monthly closing process.

  • Ensure the compliance of accrual accounting for the closing by making sure all the supplier invoices relating to expenses are either booked or accrued. Ensure proper income accruals are done.

  • Ensure proper records are maintained for accruals and prepaid expenses and income.

  • Provide assistance to facilitate the monthly closing process and provide information which would improve the functioning of the team.

  • Ensure proper income reconciliations are done between operational and accounting software.

3. Ensure timely and accurate closing of all job accounts

  • To ensure number of open jobs are maintained with in the agreed KPI numbers.

  • Provide the necessary hep and guidance to team members and ops team regarding Job closure.

  • Investigate and report to FM on suspicious entries noticed in Job Accounts.

4. Tax matters

  • To make sure all updated ST regulations are implemented in both the companies and reports are filed.

  • Taking care of corporate and personal income tax matters.

5. Ad hoc Reporting and Audit Requirements

  • Assist FM with requirements of Internal / External Audit and reporting requirements.

  • Work closely with FM on systems implementations and improvements.

6. HSSE Responsibility

  • It is your responsibility to comply with the GAC Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policy and GAC HSSE Manual procedures respecting industrial and personal safety and environmental precautions, always giving consideration to the safety of yourself and others. You have the responsibility and authority to stop any works and report when an unsafe condition or action could result in an undesirable HSSE event.

Job requirements

• University graduate. A professional qualification will be an added advantage.

• Knowledge of IFRSs will be an added advantage.

• Minimum 4 years qualified accounting experience and desired 1 year in senior position, preferably with experience from Logistics and/or Shipping industry

• Excellent English communication skills

• Proficient with MS Office particularly advanced Excel skills and knowledge of accounting software
