Job description

Are you an experienced shipping professional with strong operational knowledge and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service? You could be the person we’re looking for to join our team in Cape Town.

As a Marine Representative / Ship Agent, you will be responsible for handling vessel operations, coordinating port activities, and ensuring smooth turnaround for vessels calling South African ports. You will work closely with principals, port authorities, service providers, and internal teams to deliver efficient, accurate, and compliant agency services.

Duties will include:

·       Coordinating and attending to all aspects of vessel port calls.

·       Managing pre‑arrival, in‑port, and post‑departure documentation and operational requirements.

·       Liaising with port authorities, terminals, service providers, and vessel crew.

·       Handling various cargo operations, bunkering, IPL/OPL calls, and supporting Oil & Gas/Energy projects.

·       Ensuring accurate and timely communication with principals and stakeholders.

·       Monitoring vessel schedules and ensuring service delivery meets customer expectations.

·       Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining strong client relationships.

Job requirements

What we’re looking for:

·       Minimum 5 years’ ships agency experience, with in‑depth knowledge of port and vessel operations.

·       Experience handling a variety of cargo types, bunkers, IPL/OPL calls, and Oil & Gas/Energy project vessels.

·       Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels.

·       Customer‑focused mindset with the ability to work under pressure.

·       Above‑average written and verbal communication skills in English.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

 

Skills & Qualifications

·       Educational Qualification: Minimum Grade 12

·       Professional Qualification: Not required, but shipping‑related qualifications will be an advantage
