GAC Australia is looking for a candidate for the role of a Freight Forwarding Operations Officer to be based in PERTH.

Job Description
The role contributes to the business growth of the company by maintaining a professional image, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through close monitoring and continuous improvement of customer service. Building strong partnerships with customers, particularly domestic customers, charterers, and cargo controlling parties, is crucial for ensuring loyalty and long-term success.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but will not be restricted to:

  • Managing full import and export operations for both air and sea freight: Coordinating the movement of goods and ensuring compliance with international and local regulations.
  • Handling transhipment entries through Border Force ICS platform (training provided).
  • Project freight forwarding: Assisting with the coordination and execution of complex, freight movements for specialised projects, ensuring timely delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Liaising with transport suppliers to ensure timely connection of ship spares, project cargo, general freight.
  • Export cargo bookings and managing associated documentation, ensuring adherence to legal and logistical requirements.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to handle miscellaneous freight forwarding enquiries, providing quotes, and offering solutions to client issues.
  • Assist in gathering all documents relating the customs clearance of freight and vessels.
  • Invoicing and reporting, including the use of our in-house freight forwarding software tailored specifically for GAC operations.
  • Warehousing and inventory management: Coordinating the storage of goods in our warehousing facilities, ensuring accurate tracking, handling, and dispatching of inventory to meet client requirements.

Job requirements

To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and experience:

  • Strong understanding in freight forwarding and project freight forwarding.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with international partners and customers.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, with strong attention to detail in handling freight operations.
  • Accurate data entry ability.
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office (Intermediate level).
  • Ability to work independently in an open team environment.
  • Computer literate / MS Office Intermediate skills.
  • Current driver’s licence and/or forklift licence (preferred).
  • Previous local experience or knowledge of import/export regulations, customs clearance, and logistics operations would be an advantage.
